If you have a soft spot for animals of all sizes then Australia Zoo is simply a must when in Queensland. Carrying on the amazing work of Australian Icon Steve Irwin, Australia Zoo is the home to many animals and the best part is you can be a part of it too. I need to go back and spend an entire day there to fully grasp all the zoo has to offer. Our tiger encounter was definitely an amazing once in a lifetime experience that I would recommend to others, especially given the rate at which tigers are becoming endangered. Australia Zoo allows you to sit beside and touch a real live, breathing tiger. This is something words cannot describe…it was purely magical being this close to such a big jungle giant and it’s something I will get to tell my kids about when I get older.

Australia Zoo was 10 times better than I expected. I reccomend to anyone holidaying on the Sunshine Coast. Staff very helpful and food at reasonable prices. Only complaint was the merchandise was quite expensive. Crikey!

The Giraffe Encounter was so much fun and soooooo personal and informative. The staff were exceptional and very well trained in their field. It was actually quite amazing being up so close to them and have the experience of feeding them by hand and mouth!!!! Can you believe!!! Shaz and I both appreciated this opportunity and will certainly be able to spread the news about this fabulous experience for those attending the amazing Australia Zoo. Thanks again.

Australia Zoo is really cool! There is so much to see there and I loved being able to get my picture taken with the snakes (although this was really scary). The live crocodile show is the best! Would highly recommend Australia Zoo for anyone visiting the Sunshine Coast.

My trip to the Australia zoo was great.The new Africa part of the zoo is amazing.. The Africa area is a fun short ride away from the main zoo in an open air zebra shuttle. We got dropped off at "AFRICA" An amazing large area full of animals from Africa after a 200mtr walk to the end your met by some men from africa playing the drums,plenty of spare drums for anyone to join in,, and at 1.30pm they have a music workshop. I believe in months to come they will also have a cheetah running track..etc

A lot bigger then what i thought! Had great live shows and the staff were very friendly. Would recommend anyone coming to the Sunshine Coast to visit Australia Zoo!

We had a really great day as I hadn’t been to the zoo for ten years and Larna for 15 years. Thought that the animal displays were excellent and there was plenty of opportunity to interact with the animals when they brought them around. The main show in the Crocoseum was awesome with the amount of animals shown to the crowd and the level of training that has obviously gone into creating the show. We would definitely recommend the zoo to any of our guests. Our only disappointment of the day was that the cheetahs were not available for viewing.

Very good zoo enjoyed being able to take the decision on wether id be holding a snake or koala and enjoyed seeing the AUSTRALIAN DINGO!!!

Visited Australia Zoo and it was awesome!! The area is so well maintained and the animals are amazing! You need to get out early to really take your time and see everything....cause 2 hours in, and i had only seen a quarter of the attractions.

Australia Zoo is located on Steve Irwin Way, Beerwah, Sunshine Coast, approximately a one hour drive north of Brisbane.

Getting to Australia Zoo

By Car

Travel on the Bruce Highway, take the Steve Irwin Way exit and follow the signs.

By Train

Catch the train from Central Station, Brisbane to Beerwah and a FREE courtesy coach will collect you from the Beerwah train station.

Coach Transfers

Daily day tour and coach transfers operate from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Go to the Day Tours category.

Australia Zoo Coach pickup service from the Sunshine Coast

Pick ups are available for only $5 return from 11 locations around the Sunshine Coast from Noosa to Mooloolaba. Proceeds from this service go towards Australia Zoo Conservation Projects. Bus times are:

  • 8:10am Noosaville - Noosaville Lions Park bus stop (Gympie Terrace)
  • 8:15am Noosaville - Cnr William Street & Noosa Parade
  • 8:30am Noosa Heads - Cnr Noosa Parade & Hastings Street (Transit Centre)
  • 8:50am Coolum - David Low Way (near Coolum Surf Club, under the sea theme)
  • 9:10am Maroochydore - Cnr of First Ave & George St (back/side of Maroochydore RSL)
  • 9:15am Alexandra Headlands - Bus Stop (in front of Skate Bowl near Alexandra Headlands Surf Club)
  • 9:20am Mooloolaba - River Esplanade Bus Stop (opposite Sailport Apartments, in front of park)
  • 10:00am arrives at Australia Zoo
  • Coach departs from Australia Zoo at 4pm

9am - 5pm 7 days a week. Closed Christmas Day 25 December and open from 1.30pm to 5.30pm ANZAC Day 25 April.
